FAQ and Update Log

For the most part, any questions related to our logic and ordering of the chronological list can be found on the "How We Did It" page, but here are a few other FAQs that might be helpful:

F.A.Q.

Q: Will you be updating the list as new official live-action content is created?

A: Yes! In order to avoid a lot of editing, I'll be updating the lists at the end of each new season. ie: After Discovery Season 4 is finished I will post and place all the episodes from that season. Same with Picard seasons and the upcoming Strange New Worlds.

Q: Do you really think this is the "best" way to order the episodes chronologically?

A: Ultimately, the best way for you to watch through Star Trek is entirely up to you! Our reasonings for placement are outlined in detail in our "How We Did It" section. We think we took almost everything we could into consideration and came up with a great list that works well for us and should satisfy the majority of fans. We realize however, some people may disagree with some placements or simply prefer a different viewing order for one reason or another, and that's fine with us. This is our list. Take what you like, leave what you don't. Feel free to leave a comment, and have fun watching Trek!

Q: Where are the "Very Short Treks?"

A: Regulars to this site over the years will know that for the longest time this list only included Live Action Star Trek episodes. By popular demand, we've decided to included the various animated series, but still feel like these Very Short Treks are dubiously canon, and so "very short" that we're just not bothering with them when it comes to this project.

Q: Why is there an asterisk after "Ephraim and Dot"?

A: Although a Short Trek, this episode feels more non-canon akin to the Very Short Treks episodes. It also takes place over the course of a lot of time, not just where it is placed on the timeline here.

Q: Why is there a random space in between #546 and #547?

A: This is an old site, and the main reason I don't update it as often as I should is because formatting changes is a painful tedious process. I found a work around, but that random space is the price I paid (along with slightly lower visual quality on the list itself. This is an extremely part-time hobby thing, so it's a give and take I guess. ;)

Most Recent Updates -

November 2nd, 2023 - MAJOR UPDATE!!

Those who have been on this site for a while know that for many many years this was only a list of live-action Star Trek episodes. Though I, myself still struggle to accept the animated adventures as canon (particularly Lower Decks due to it's extreme difference in tone from the rest of the shows - despite it's overall fun!), I've come to realize that although this site started out as a personal project just for myself, it's developed a life of it's own over the years and it's more for all of you now that it is for me. That's not a complaint! In fact, I'm humbled by the attention and love this site has received over the years! Thank you all, and I hope you continue to enjoy it! :)

  1. Blown away by the amount of time and effort put into this chronology, I became totally committed to watching the entirety of Star Trek in your recommended order. However, we've just finished Enterprise and The Cage. Should we wait for Strange New Worlds to start, before moving on to Discovery? Do we know how long Strange New Worlds will last? Would hate to wait seven years before moving on to Discovery.

  3. Picard Season 2 - Much of it takes place in the 21st Century- with no external reference to the 24th/25th or the use of time travel in those episodes. Should those episodes be chronologically earlier?

  4. How do you know this when some of the episodes didn't mention specific star dates?

  5. Just discovered this project and I love that this is still being updated!! I was wondering if you could also update the PDF version - it seems to be a little out of date and I would love to have a checklist to accompany my rewatch! I started a chronological rewatch a few months ago and this is a huge boon to help!!

May I ask U,how to get also a clue to TOS/TAS/DIS Stardate resets?
Where r the reset points & for example is TAS all later than TOS after a Stardate reset,or does TAS episodes belong into same set of stardates like TOS?
    Thanx for any help.
    LIVE LONG & PROSPER.

  8. Hello! Thanks so much for this. I love your work.

I noticed Lower Decks Season 3 Episode 7 "A Mathematically Perfect Redemption" seems to be missing from your list.

  9. I have a spreadsheet version of this that I mirror to the site info. Would it be possible to make the two-parters consistent? Sometimes you show parts 1 and 2 of a title as separate listings and sometimes as one title. Makes the numbering system a bit hard to maintain. Just a request!

    1. To clarify: it makes sense to split them with parts 1 and 2 are separated by other episodes, and to make them one title when not separated, but sometimes they are listed as one title and other times as two parts back to back.

Hey everyone! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. As you may have noticed, I don't keep up with this site nearly as often as I'd like to. That being said, I will continue to update it as new content is produced/season come out and will endeavor to respond to comments when I'm able. Please forgive me if I don't respond to all of them. Thanks for viewing!!
